Let me paint you a picture.
It's a Tuesday afternoon. Someone's fence has blown down in the storm. They need a fencer — fast. They don't know anyone personally. So they do what pretty much everyone does in 2026.
They pick up their phone and type "fencer near me" into Google.
And up comes a list. Names, phone numbers, reviews, distances. They scroll through, pick someone who looks trustworthy, and make the call.
Here's the question — are you on that list?
Because if you're not, you didn't even get a look in. It doesn't matter that you're brilliant at your job. It doesn't matter that you've been in the trade for 20 years. If Google doesn't know you exist, that customer will never know you exist either.
This is what I mean when I talk about being invisible online. And it's happening to a huge number of local tradespeople every single day.
The Good News
It's fixable. A properly built website combined with a well set up Google Business Profile can get you on that list. It takes a bit of work upfront, but once it's done — it works for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
More on how that works in the posts ahead.
